Samsung's Galaxy S5 Active Release Date: 5.1 Inch HD Display Smartphone Hits Market

Samsung's Galaxy S5 Active is now available for sale at AT&T retail locations, and online.

The mobile carrier's senior vice president of the company's device division said the phone can handle all conditions.

"Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is built to handle the wear and tear of an active lifestyle, while still maintaining the level of performance customers expect from a premium smartphone," Jeff Bradley said in a company press release. "Now you can enjoy the outdoors with a durable, premium smartphone on the nation's most reliable 4G LTE network."

The smartphone's 2.5 gigahertz quad-core processor and Android Kit Kat 4.4 operating system allow consumers to efficiently navigate through installed apps using a 4G long term evolution network. The gadget's 16-megapixel rear-facing camera's digital zoom takes clear photos that can document any event or scene.

A 5.1 inch Full HD Super AMOLED display gives viewers a clear picture in 1080 pixels. Consumers can use this component in any and all conditions: shock resistant, water resistant and dust-proof casing prevent the elements from damaging the gadget.

The device's built-in heart rate monitor tracks a consumer's heartbeat by how many steps one takes, according to the press release. Consumers can also earn medals, and ask for nutrition advice courtesy of S-Health.

According to Samsung.com, the component monitors blood pressure, blood glucose levels and weight. Environmental conditions and one's exercise routines are also checked.

"S Health is intended to help users manage their overall health and well-being through capturing and tracking health-related information and metrics," Samsung said in a disclaimer on their website. "It is not intended to be used in the detection, diagnosis, monitoring, or treatment of any condition, disease, or vital physiological processes or for the transmission of time-sensitive health information."

The technology costs $27.50 a month with AT&T's Next 18 no money down or yearly contract phone payment plan. The company's Next 12 option costs $35.75 a month, or $199 with a two-year agreement.

A $50 discount on a Samsung Gear Fit exercise gadget is available when buying a Galaxy S5 Active.
