Chicago was unwilling to let their season end Wednesday night. They tied Game 5 in the third period and finally pulled away with a 5-4 win in double overtime, thanks to the game-winning goal from Michal Handzus.
"(Brandon) Saad, two guys went on him, and I got open," Handzus told the Associated Press after the game. "I was surprised I got open like that but he waited and waited and gave me a great pass. ...
"I want to help the team as much as I can. I'm playing on the PK a lot. I'm not playing very well offensively. I'm glad I came through."
Chicago needs a win on Friday to stay alive. Despite still facing elimination, the Blackhawks are calm and appear to feel as if the pressure to win is on Los Angeles.
"We have our backs against the wall here and face elimination, but we're staying relaxed," said Saad. "We've been through it before, and it definitely helps. We've had success on the road before, and L.A. is definitely tough, but we're not going to let that end the season. We can't make any excuses whether we're playing at home or away."
The Kings, meanwhile, risk a shift in momentum if Chicago escapes Friday night with a win.
"We know we can't let it go to a Game 7," Kings defenseman Drew Doughty said. "No matter what, this game has to be ours. It's so important for us to advance to the Stanley Cup Final that we win this game. If we give them this game, they're going to have so much more life, and they're going to be a different team. We need to take that and deal with it."
