Microsoft has introduced a new app for devices running Windows Phone 8.1 that allows users to browse, search and launch files.
Microsoft, the biggest software company, has unveiled Files, the first official file management app for Windows Phone 8.1.
"We all encounter a number of files in our daily lives across the various devices we use. And often times we need ways to manage these files and share them with others - even on our phones," Brandon LeBlanc, senior marketing communications manager at Microsoft, wrote in an official post, Friday. "Today, we are releasing that app. It's called Files and it makes it easy and intuitive to manage your files on your device running Windows Phone 8.1."
The new Files app is compatible with Windows Phone 8.1 devices. The app helps users browse, search, launch, share, copy, rename, move, delete and organize files stored on the device. Until now, users were left with no option but to go searching app-by-app to finally find just one file. The task can be challenging, but the new file manager app can simplify it with a simple interface.
The official Files app was unveiled during an AMA session on Reddit earlier this month by the company's Joe Belfiore. The app was then expected to arrive later this month and just as promised it is available on the Windows Phone Store. As for a Reddit user who first asked about the file manager for WP, Belfiore offered a free Cortana t-shirt.
Users can access phone documents, downloads, music, videos, pictures and more, regardless of the device or SD card storage. The app also allows users to create new folders and rename or delete existing files. Sharing option makes it easier for users to send files from the Windows Phones to others.
If you already have Microsoft's latest and the most advanced Windows Phone 8.1 OS, it is about time you tried Files by downloading it for free from the app store.
