A Chicago rapper, 21, was shot and killed in a mall parking lot on May 31, Complex reports. Up-and-coming rapper OTF Nunu, who also used the name Nuski, was killed when an unidentified suspect approached his SUV and opened fire outside of Chatham Village Square Mall.
Police believe the shooting may have been gang-related. Officers told the Chicago Sun-Times that the rapper, real name McArthur Swindle, tried to drive away from the scene but crashed his car into the front window of a store after getting hit by several bullets.
Even though police think Swindle's murder was gang-related, his aunt Sherri Swindle, said the young rapper was not involved in any gangs. According to the Sun-Times, Sherri said her nephew was taking college classes in Joliet, Ill. She also pleaded that there needs to be an end to gun violence in Chicago.
"It needs to stop," she said. "He was a good person. He was a kindhearted person. He had a lot of soul."
Reportedly the 21-year-old was finishing up a mixtape, titled "Nuski Got Da Strap." His first-cousin Lil Durk, also a Chicago rapper, had released a new song featuring Swindle just days before the shooting.
"This was going to be his big breakout project," Merk Murphy, who runs a studio where Swindle was recording tracks, told the Sun-Times. "He was one of those kids who saw an opportunity to put himself in a better position with his music."
Several people, including the rapper's girlfriend, have taken to Twitter to express their sorrow.
"All I feel right now is sick. My body can't rest, my mind won't stop racing. I just feel nauseous," @ChaliceChanel tweeted.
"I'm losing it Nunu please help me," she continued.
