Cablevision announced Tuesday that it has included a new feature called "TV to Go" in its Optimum mobile app to let customers watch TV shows from any location.
The feature gives subscribers access to a variety of TV Everywhere services, such as HBO Go, WatchESPN and Walt Disney, according to CED.
"The integration of TV to Go networks into the Optimum App makes it the ultimate platform for mobile TV viewing, whether a customer is connected to their home network or out and about," said Bradley Feldman, senior vice president of product management for Cablevision. "Our customers enjoy being able to watch TV from their smartphones, tablets, and laptops, and we believe that having their mobile content available in one place- the Optimum App- will make their experience that much more seamless and enjoyable."
Before the update, customers could only watch the content in their cable subscription on mobile devices when connected to their home network, PC Magazine reported.
All customers have to do is sign into the app with their Optimum IDs and passwords, and they will be able to watch programming from over 100 networks. Movies and TV shows from Starz, Showtime, Cinemax, and Encore are available, as well as kids programming from Nick, Cartoon Network and Sprout.
TV to Go also provides programming from sports networks such as beIN Sports, ESPN, Fox Sports, NFL Network, NFL Redzone and NBC Sports Network. Breaking news from CNBC, News12 and CNN can also be found, CED reported.
Subscribers will be able to look through a list of channels and get linked directly to a network's app or TV Everywhere web portal.
TV to Go lists stations available for out-of-home viewing by genre. Subscribers can filter them to show all networks or only the ones included in their cable packages, PC Magazine reported.
The Optimum app can be downloaded for free from the App Store for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch devices. It is also available for Android tablets and phones at the Google Play Store, as well as for Kindle devices at the Amazon Marketplace.
