New York's road to the Stanley Cup final wasn't easy. They needed two Game 7s to advance past the first two rounds, and the Montreal Canadiens took them to six games in the conference finals - unlike Los Angeles, who needed seven games to put away the Chicago Blackhawks.
Now, the Rangers' focus is strictly on coming away from the final-opener with a win.
"When you knew you were playing L.A., the adrenaline started coming a little bit more," Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist told the Associated Press. "You've been thinking about this ever since you beat Montreal, but now knowing we're going to L.A., it was easier to focus on what's coming.
"You just try to now come back to the focus and mindset you had last week. It's been nice to get a little break here and get away from it a little bit because it's been that intense."
New York's season didn't start off as planned, but the team feels prepared to make a run for the NHL championship.
"To put it quite simply, we're up against the team that won the Stanley Cup two years ago that just beat the defending Stanley Cup champions, that without a doubt is battle-tested," Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said. "We know exactly what we have to do. If we want to have a chance, we're going to have to bring our best hockey of the year. It's as simple as that.
"We've had a couple of good practices, we're going to have another good one tomorrow, and we're going to be ready come Wednesday."
Los Angeles overcome Chicago's two-game winning streak, which forced a Game 7, to earn a spot in the Stanley Cup final.
