Can an ex-vampire be an all-American "non-superhero superhero?"
According to he Daily Star, Robert Pattinson is reportedly in the running to play Indiana Jones in the upcoming remake of the adventure movie. The 28-year-old "Twilight" star reportedly tops a short list of young male actors Disney is considering as Harrison Ford's replacement.
"Disney is looking at its long-term options for the Indiana Jones franchise," a source told the Daily Star. "They feel that the series has huge potential on many levels, starting with the films leading to other spin-offs like games which can generate more money than movies."
The insider added: "Rob is top of the initial list because he has showed his acting stripes away from Twilight. But the competition will be stiff."
However, E! News stated that the rumors were false. The Christian Post reported that actors Kellan Lutz, Chris Pine, Chris Hemsworth and Channing Tatum have made the final cut as possible replacements. In March, it was reported that "American Hustle" and "The Hangover" star Bradley Cooper was being considered to play Indiana Jones.
In the past, Ford played Indiana Jones in five installments of the franchise, but the 71-year-old actor is currently committed to reprising his role as Han Solo in the new "Star Wars" sequel. A source added that Ford is also "getting too old" for the iconic role of Indiana Jones.
Pattinson has proven his abilities outside of the "Twilight" saga. He was recently spotted at the 67th Cannes Film festival promoting his films "The Rover" and "Maps to the Stars." The British actor has also been filming his forthcoming movie "Life" in Los Angeles.
The news of Pattinson as the new Indiana Jones in the "Indiana Jones" movie franchise received mixed reactions on social media.
