Naomi Watts is the latest celebrity to join the "Divergent" franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 45-year-old actress is set to play Evelyn Johnson-Eaton, leader of the Factionless and the mother of Four, played by Theo James. Watts will appear in the film's three sequels.
In the books, Watt's character is described as a middle aged woman with black curly hair, black eyes and olive complexion. The Oscar nominee actress reportedly began shooting last week in Atlanta, Georgia.
The "Diana" actress joins a celebrity cast featuring James, Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and Miles Teller - all of whom will reprise their roles for the film's sequels. The film franchise is based on a trilogy book series by Veronica Roth.
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer has also signed onto the film series as Johanna, the leader of the peaceful Amity faction, who helps the series' heroes Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) in their fight quest. Actors Suki Waterhouse and Jonny Weston have also joined the cast for the rest of the franchise.
"In the second film, Tris (Woodley) searches for allies and answers in the dystopian ruins of a futuristic Chicago while on the run with Four (James) and hunted by the leader of the power-hungry Erudite elite," according to THR.
Earlier this year, Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment announced that the final book in the "Divergent" series will be split into two movies, "Allegiant: Part 1" and "Allegiant: Part 2", which are scheduled to hit theaters on March 18, 2016 and March 24, 2017. The film is produced by Red Wagon's Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher, as well as Pouya Shahbazian.
The first film earned $267 million worldwide following its US release in March, THR reported. Executives for the film reportedly predicted that "Insurgent" will gross up to $400 million worldwide, according to Variety.
"Insurgent" hits theaters March 20, 2015.
