Melissa McCarthy Opens Up About Fashion Designers Refusing to Make Plus-Size Oscar Dresses (VIDEO)

After several designers turned down her request to make a dress for the 2012 Academy Awards, Melissa McCarthy fought back by launching her own plus-size clothing line.

The 43-year-old actress, who will grace the cover of Redbook's July issue, opened up about her difficulties finding outfits for the festivities and why she decided to start her own clothing line. The "Mike and Molly" star said she was disappointed in the lack of fashion choices for plus-size women.

Two years ago, McCarthy, who received an Oscar nomination for her role in the hit comedy "Bridesmaids," said several designers refused her request to make a dress in her size to attend the ceremony. The actress ended up wearing a blush pink Grecian style gown by Marina Rinaldi.

"When I go shopping, most of the time I'm disappointed," McCarthy explained. "Two Oscars ago, I couldn't find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers - very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people - and they all said no."

The mother of two - Vivian, 6, and Georgette, 3 - also opened up about her eight-year marriage to Ben Falcone, who was also seen in "Bridesmaids." McCarthy told the magazine that professional success does not define her marriage and called her family her most-prized possession.

"We have a great marriage, and outside forces can't really change that," she stated. "Success doesn't define us, even though we love what we do. The important thing is our family and kids. I see teenagers or people who are 21 and think, I was an idiot at that age. I was running around New York like a crazy woman. I was too immature to handle success then."

The actress recalled her youngest daughter asking her if she was famous and the actress replied, "Famous doesn't mean anything. Just because people know my face doesn't mean they know us or that it makes us any more interesting or better."

McCarthy starred in "Identity Thief" and "The Heat" in 2013 and is scheduled to appear in the upcoming movies "Tammy" and "St. Vincent."

The July issue of Redbook goes on sale June 10.
