Tinder dating app is adding a new feature called Moments, that allows users to share photos with their matches, for 24 hours.
Tinder, the popular dating app for mobile phones, added a new feature to enhance the online dating experience for its users. With the addition of Moments, Tinder brings the ease of sharing photos with matches, which disappear after 24 hours. The new feature helps people to know each other by getting a sneak peak at their lives through shared moments. It appears the dating app is rising above the idea of being just a hook-up app for people.
Tinder describes Moments as swipe-able photos, which users can share with all their matches at once. The app's core function of swiping right or left to show interest in a particular match is also extended to Moments, where users can swipe right to "like" or left to "nope" a moment.
"Moments are the perfect excuse to say more than just "hello." Just like in real life the moments we experience start to fade, Tinder Moment can also be seen only for 24 hours," the company wrote in an official blog announcing the new feature, Thursday. "Capturing and sharing a Moment is designed to be really quick and less intimidating. Tinder Moments expire in 24 hours, so you can be yourself without the pressure of making it perfect."
Tinder, which was launched in 2012, was started with a minimalistic idea of helping people meet new people. The idea transformed into a successful app that has witnessed more than 850 million swipes with over 10 million matches each day. The company says it has made 2 billion matches till date.
Before announcing the new feature Thursday, Tinder also built suspense around Los Angeles. Giant matchsticks were placed around the Los Angeles area with hashtag #moments printed on it, ABC7 reported.
Moments also lets users share photos with filters, art and text. The company does not plan on stopping there, as it is reportedly working on new features such as giving an anonymity cloak to users so other people cannot see you, NDTV reported.
Mobile users can download the Tinder app for Android and iOS for free.
