Evan Rachel Wood reportedly owes producers $30 million, after bailing on a "10 Things I Hate About You" sequel.
According to the Guardian, court documents filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court claimed that the 26-year-old actress was paid $300,000 upfront in November 2012 to secure her role in the film. Production for the movie shut down due to money issues, but resumed shortly after.
Wood reportedly refused to return to work, however.
Producers are claiming that the actress has violated her contract by opting out of the sequel. The lawsuit explained that the producer pleaded with Evan to get back to work and even agreed to pay her more money.
A representative for Wood said in a statement to E! News that the lawsuit was preposterous and simply a bullying tactic from financially troubled producers.
"The production shut down in February 2013 when the producers ran out of money," a representative for Wood told Deadline. "Even after that, Evan agreed to resume production in Nov. 2013 by which time the producers said they would have cleared up their issues."
The representative added: "However, the producers still could not get their act together, nor did they pay Evan money that was owed. Repeated subsequent promises by the producers to resume production and pay Evan also turned out to be false. Enough is enough. The producers, not Evan, have breached contract."
Court documents show that "10 Things Film LLC" is suing for at least $20 million in lost profits, $500,000 in lost financing costs, $6 million in lost investments and $5 million in damages.
