Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt star in an action-packed thriller titled "Edge of Tomorrow."
The film has both critics and audiences praising its "crafty" and "clever" take on the sci-fi genre. One Rotten Tomatoes audience viewer claims the film manages to avoid falling into the clichés in its genre and keep the film's plot interesting. Check out audiences and critics had to say about the film below.
IGN calls the film "good" with a 7.5 out of 10 rating:
"But for all the film's defying of genre expectations, Edge of Tomorrow's final few scenes revert to type, with Rita - who really should be the hero of the piece - taking a back-seat, and the 'biggest star in the world' doing what he does best in predictable Hollywood fashion. Which seems like a missed opportunity in a film that promised so much. But lazy, obvious plotting supplants innovation and ingenuity as the end nears, making for a film that comes close to greatness, but sadly falls short at the final hurdle."
The Washington Post gives the film 3 out of 4 stars:
"A crafty, clever, stylish science-fiction action adventure, this time-travel loop-de-loop didn't have to be this good. But thanks to the efforts of a superb creative team and Tom Cruise - here deploying his own persona with stunning self-awareness and humor - what might have been a throwaway genre exercise instead turns out to be a surprisingly satisfying day-after-day-after-day at the movies."
Rotten Tomatoes audience viewers certify the film fresh with a 91 percent rating:
"Easily the best movie of the summer. The mimics are the coolest aliens since...well, Aliens. The premise is equally smart, bizarre, and trippy, all while undermining the cliches of the sci-fi action genre. And let's not forget Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt; you won't see a better action team in any film this year. Strong characters, a great story, and stellar effects make Edge of Tomorrow a near perfect masterpiece. Director Doug Liman has more than redeemed himself for Jumper."
