After 18-years of marriage, Melanie Griffith has ended her 18-year union with Antonio Banderas.
According to the New York Daily News, the 56-year-old actress filed divorce papers citing irreconcilable differences. Griffith also hired celebrity divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who has represented Heidi Klim, Ashton Kutcher and Christina Aguilera.
The "Working Girl" actress is asking her 53-year-old husband for spousal support, child support, and sole physical and joint custody of their daughter Stella, who turns 18 in September. Sources say the decision to divorce was amicable.
The couple has an extensive real estate portfolio, with properties in both the U.S. and Spain.
Griffith and Banderas first got together after meeting on the set the 1995 film "Two Much." They tied the knot in a low-key ceremony in London on May 14, 1996. Banderas once revealed that he's fallen in love with his wife numerous times over their 18-year marriage.
"I wouldn't be able to count, but it's a lot," he told Hello Magazine in 2010. "There are days that I've fallen in love with her many times over, because of things that she's done. For example, we have a real laugh taking photos. There have been times with our daughter that we couldn't even take the picture because Melanie was cracking up. I'd look at her, so happy, so beautiful, so healthy, and for me it was a reaffirmation."
This is Griffith's fourth divorce and Banderas' second. Griffith was previously married to Steve Bauer for five years and had a son, Alexander, together. She later married Don Johnson twice and the couple have 24-year-old daughter Dakata Johnson, who will star in the highly-anticipated film "Fifty Shades of Grey" due out Valentine's weekend of 2015.
Griffith was photographed wearing her wedding ring while walking on the red carpet at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala honoring Jane Fonda in Hollywood, Calif., on Thursday.
