Motorola Solutions Inc. is releasing a new "try before you buy" service that lets users test a custom off-contract Motor X smartphone for two weeks.
By customizing the trial, users will be able design their own devices for any supported carrier of their choosing through Moto Maker, according to Capital Technologies.
Customers can enroll in this offer by signing up on Motorola.com. Customers who sign up will receive a special code.
The telecommunications company will hold a $0.01 charge on the customers' credit card while they have possession of the device, Droid Life reported.
Customers have the option of signing up for a 64GB version of the device, which costs $449.99, and is $100 more than the 16GB version.
In its promotion of the smartphone, the company said that people won't understand the quality of the device until they try it out themselves, Capital Technologies reported.
The campaign follows Google's sale of Motorola to Lenovo, as well as Motorola's decision to close its factory in Texas, where the Moto X is assembled. The company also plans to move operations overseas.
The campaign started Sunday, June 8, at 11:00 p.m. After signing up, customers can design their devices at Moto Maker, Motorola's online studio, Droid Life reported.
If the consumer likes their Moto X after 14 days, they will be charged for the price of the phone. If they are not satisfied with the phone, the company will pay to ship the device back. Consumers who choose to keep their Moto Xs will also receive a welcome to the Motorola family in the form of a promo code for 30 percent off accessories.
