Skype for iPhone is getting its makeover with a complete redesign, five times greater speed, better navigation, instant notification syncing and a lot more.
Skype, the popular video calling service owned by Microsoft, is being overhauled for iPhone users with a completely new version, Skype 5.0. The updated app will feature several modifications in terms of outlook and performance, bringing it at par with the Android and Windows Phone counterparts without losing the iOS feel.
The new Skype for iPhone is built from the ground up. The app boasts enhanced group chatting, better navigation and instant notification syncing across devices. With simpler navigation, swiping between conversations, contacts lists and favorites has never been easier. Skype has also improved group chatting features.
"[W]e took the opportunity to rewrite this new version from the ground up and customize it to fit iOS best," the company wrote in an official blog post, Monday, detailing the upcoming change in Skype for iPhone. "The new Skype for iPhone is redesigned to put your conversation at the center of a faster, smoother and far more integrated experience."
Skype promises that its updated version 5.0 is over five times faster and more responsive than its current version of the app. The app features smoother scrolling and better animations without affecting the performance and the battery life of the device. In addition, messages and photos can be sent to users, even if they're offline, so they can be viewed when the recipient is back online.
Skype, as it supports multiple devices, allows instant notification syncing. Skype users on PCs, tablets, Xbox and other devices will instantly see the messages marked as read if they are opened in any one device and new messages are synced across all devices at the same time.
Skype for iPhone v5.0 is not immediately available for download but the company will start rolling it out around the world next week. With the iPhone version coming along, updated Skype for iPads is also in the works and will be delivered soon.
Apple iPhone users can download the mobile app from iTunes right away and wait for the update.
