LAPD Officer Arrested for Sexually Assaulting Two Children

Los Angeles police officer Miguel Angel Schiappapietra was arrested Saturday, for allegedly committing vulgar acts with children.

The six-year LAPD veteran was taken into custody from his home in Castaic, located just 40 minutes north of downtown Los Angeles.

The LA County Sheriff's Department told the Los Angeles Times that Schiappapietra convinced two girls younger than 10 years old into his house under false pretenses, then committed lewd acts upon them.

They did not expand on whether or not Schiappapietra, 28, knew the two girls.

He was off-duty at the time of his arrest. He is being charged with suspicion of lewd conduct with children under the age of 14.

He is currently being held at the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station on $100,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear in court late Tuesday.

Schiappapietra was given a Foothill area beat in the recent past, but is now on paid administrative leave until the courts reach a decision concerning his alleged crime.

The LAPD says it is in the midst of an ongoing investigation.

Schiappapietra is not the first police officer charged with molestation: last week, former Philadelphia police officer Richard DeCoatsworth was arrested and charged with rape.

DeCoatsworth allegedly left a party with two young females last Thursday, taking them to an isolated location after coaxing them to come with him.

Once he separated them from the people at the party, he reportedly pulled out a firearm and forced "the two females to engage in the use of narcotics and sexual acts."

He was arrested for rape, sexual assault, terroristic threats and a few other related crimes.
