Paul McCartney is following doctor's orders and postponing the start of his US tour as he continues to recover from a virus he contracted last month.
The former Beatle announced Monday that the tour dates scheduled for June 14-26 - in Lubbock and Dallas, Texas; New Orleans; Atlanta; Jacksonville, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; and Louisville, Kentucky - will be rescheduled for mid-October, according to Yahoo News.
McCartney was scheduled to kick off the U.S. leg of his tour Saturday in Lubbock, Texas, but his first show will be July 5 in Albany, New York instead. The 71-year-old Grammy-winning musician apologized to fans in a statement posted on his website Monday.
"I'm sorry but it's going to be a few more weeks before we get rocking in America again," the rock star wrote in a statement. "I'm feeling great but taking my doc's advice to take it easy for just a few more days. Look forward to seeing you all soon."
Several dates in McCartney's "Out There Tour 2014" have been shifted, due to the singer being hospitalized for his illnesses. He is currently recovering from an ailment that forced him to cancel four sold-out dates in Japan and South Korea last month.
The veteran musician is expected to make a complete recovery.
"Since contracting a virus...Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo," spokeswoman Perri Cohen said a statement, according to Sky News. "He will make a complete recovery and has been ordered to take a few days' rest. Paul has been extremely moved by all the messages and well wishes he has received from fans all over the world."
Tickets for the postponed shows will be honored on their new dates. The tour is scheduled to end on Oct. 28 in Louisville, Kentucky. The "Out There" tour features a three-hour long full show with music his entire career, including both his solo career and his time with The Beatles.
