Honeywall Introduces Lyric Smart Thermostat; Users Adjust Temperature With Smartphones

Honeywall introduced Tuesday its new thermostat "Lyric" to work with smartphone devices.

The $279 thermostat can provide users with comfortable temperatures based on their handset's GPS location, according to PC Magazine.

"Most people don't have a predictable pattern to how they live their lives; why not have a thermostat that adjusts based on your real-time schedule?" said Beth Wozniak, president of Honeywall Environmental and Combustion Controls.

The Lyric thermostat will be available to consumers in August, and is viewed as Honeywall's product to compete with the Nest thermostat, which was released in 2011, gigaOM reported.

The Nest's parent company was bought by Google earlier this year for $3.2 billion.

The temperature on the Lyric thermostat can be adjusted with the round dial at center, or with Android app or iPhone that works with the device, just like Nest. However, unlike Nest, which uses a monitor sensor to watch when the user enters and leaves, the Lyric thermostat uses geofence technology to determine when the user is out of the house or coming home, The Wall Street Journal reported.

When the user is home, the thermostat usually stays at the temperature that was originally set. When the user leaves, the device saves energy by adjusting the temperature based on outside conditions.

An orange light on the thermostat shows that it is heating, a blue lights signifies that it is cooling, and a green light represents energy-saving. The buttons on the center display let users look through the device's options and access information, PC Magazine reported.

The thermostat also comes with a Fine Tune feature, which looks at both indoor and outdoor temperatures, as well as weather and humidity, to provide the most comfortable temperature for the user's home.

"Quite simply, the Lyric thermostat offers me the ability to keep my life in tune- delivering comfort when I'm home and saving s when I'm gone," Wozniak said.
