Target's handle on the company's massive data breach will receive a boost Monday when the retailer's new chief information security officer begins work.
According to Dividend.com, General Motor's former chief information security and information technology risk officer Brad Maiorano takes charge of Target's newly created position.
Target's executive vice president and chief information officer Bob DeRodes said Maiorano brings ample experience to the role.
"Having led this critical function at two of the country's largest companies, Brad is widely recognized as one of the nation's top leaders in the complex, evolving areas of information security and risk," Bob DeRodes said in a company press release. "As an organization, we have made a commitment to our guests and our team that Target will be a retail leader in information security and protection. We believe Brad is the right person to lead that charge."
Maiorano said he is eager to help the retailer continue its comeback as a top company.
"I am looking forward to joining the Target team and helping them continue the progress they have made to be a retail leader in information security and protection," Maiorano said in the press release. "I am confident that the combination of a strong team and the leadership commitment will enable us to achieve that objective."
Hackers reportedly took 40 million credit and debit account numbers from customers between Nov. 27 and Dec. 15, 2013, according to a press release from the company. The incident spanned Target stores throughout the United States, Krebs on Security reported.
Tuesday's announcement is Target's latest since the company appointed Internet security veteran Bob DeRodes as its technology division and operations leader April 29, 2014. Former Target president and CEO Greg Steinhafel then resigned May 5. Steinhafel is staying on as an advisor throughout his successor, John Mulligan's transition.
