'Assassin's Creed 5: Unity' Won't Feature Customizable Female Assassins In Co-Op Mode (GAMEPLAY TRAILER)

"Assassin's Creed: Unity" won't feature female Assassins as playable characters in their franchise's new four-player cooperative mode.

Polygon reports Ubisoft Creative Director Alex Amancio explained the lack of female characters in the co-op mode was due to the lack of the studio's resources.

"It's double the animations, it's double the voices, all that stuff and double the visual assets," Amancio said. "Especially because we have customizable assassins. It was really a lot of extra production work."

There are more than 8,000 animations used to create the customizable male Assassins, according to Polygon.

"Because of that, the common denominator was Arno," Amancio said. "It's not like we could cut our main character, so the only logical option, the only option we had, was to cut the female avatar."

However, the game's multiplayer will include female Assassins. According to Ubisoft's official blog, the studio has revamped all of their game mechanics to provide a different experience that past "Assassin's Creed" titles.

"Because of these new-gen consoles, this is the first time that we can fundamentally change a lot of the core mechanics and a lot of the stuff under the hood in terms of engine, game mechanics and actual game structure," Amancio said in the blog. "So this is what Unity is. It's not a reboot. It is a reinvention of Assassin's Creed for this next generation."

Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand added along with being able to physically customize your Assassin, gamers can also upgrade their skills.

"We have a fully customizable Assassin, who can evolve over the course of the game," Pontbriand said in the blog. "So as you complete missions, you'll earn skill points, which you'll be able to spend upgrading your skills."

"Assassin's Creed: Unity" will be released to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on Oct. 28.
