Google announced Tuesday that it is updated its Flight Search feature with the search giant's popular "I'm Feeling Lucky" button.
The button is among many new changes being made to Flight Search in order to make the feature more interactive, according to NDTV Gadgets.
"Whether you know where you want to go or want to throw caution to the wind and visit some place completely new, we've got some fun, new ways to help you explore the world around you!" said Gus Prevas, software engineer for Google's Travel Team.
Prevas said the project originated from the Explore flights feature, which was started in 2012 and aimed at helping users compare prices on flights to a region of their choosing, PC Magazine reported. While Flight Explorer will still be a standalone tool, Flight Search has received some of its features. Flight Search was introduced in 2011 and allows users to compare prices for flights.
Users of Flight Search, now with tools from Explorer, can look at a full-screen map and view well-known destinations to find out the cost of flying there from their current location. Users will also be able to look at information such as time, price, airline, the number of stops along the route, the number of passengers, and airport.
The feature also recommends destinations based on the user's past searches along with certain areas, according to PC Magazine. If users type in the United States, for example, they will be given an outline of the country. They will also be provided with recommended destinations, such as Chicago and Houston. By clicking on a destination, users will see a picture of the location along with an interactive map showing the best prices for each day.
The "I'm Feeling Lucky" button creates ideas for users who do not know where they want to go. They will be able to add limits to price and times. Google will suggest a new destination each time the user clicks on the button, NDTV Gadgets reported.
Users can also load the expanded maps to get suggestions of cities close by in the area, as well as the cheapest flight ticket available to get to them. The feature includes a map that shows trends in the flight prices as well.
