Vessyl's smart cup will be able to tell the difference between Coca-Cola and Pepsi when released in 2015.
According to Time, the technology does this by figuring out the product's sugar contents. Alcoholic drinks, milkshakes, and yogurt are detectable as well. The device can also tell how much caffeine, fat, and calories a drink contains.
"Vessyl automatically knows and tracks what you're drinking in real-time," the company said on their website.
The site also mentioned that the cup helps people live healthy lifestyles.
"It knows what's inside," the web page revealed. "It's not magic, but close to it...the Vessyl knows and aggregates everything you drink. No more guessing or journaling. It keeps track of what's important to you...."
The product is a "modern take on a classic object," as users can use the product's Vessyl app to enter information about drinks they've poured into their bodies. The program then uses the data to tell how hydrated or dehydrated the person is. Chemical intake is also gauged.
Consumers can also wirelessly charge the cup when it's connected to their smartphone via bluetooth.
"We worked closely with fuseproject to craft an object that would possess a unique yet subtle presence on a tabletop," the company said on their Internet portal. "The facets on the side of the Vessyl indicate where the screen will display your consumption data. The spill-proof lid, non-stick interior, and durable build will allow you to be confident on the move,"
Pre-orders for the technology are now available for $99. The price will rise $100 to $199 when the product is officially unveiled.
Vessyl joins other companies that have opted for wirelessly chargeable products.
Starbucks announced plans to install the capability in all of the coffee chain's locations Thursday. San Francisco shops will have the concept first. The company then intends to add more cities in 2015 before expanding the feature in every Starbucks location throughout the United States, according to a press release.
