Samsung introduced two new tablets in the Galaxy Tab S series that come in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch display sizes with high-end specifications and premium design.
Samsung, the biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world, is expanding its tablet lineup with two new additions in the latest Galaxy Tab S series. The two tablets, 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch, come with a premium design and high-end features. Both tablets pack similar technical specifications and are the thinnest and lightest the company has offered to date.
The Galaxy Tab S carries the company's productive suite of features; high-resolution display, faster processor, improved camera, auto-adjust display, lasting battery life, Kindle for Samsung and lot more.
Even as the tablets come in two different sizes, 8.5-inch and 10.5-inch diagonally, both feature 2560x1600 resolution Super AMOLED displays, Exynos 5 Octa (1.9 GHz Quad Core + 1.3 GHz Quad core) or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 2.3 GHz Quad core processors, 3GB RAM, 16 or 32 GB internal storage options expandable up to 128GB, 8-megapixel rear facing camera with LED flash and 2.1-megapixel Full HD front shooter.
"The tablet is becoming a popular personal viewing device for enjoying content, which makes the quality of the display a critical feature," JK Shin, CEO and President of IT and Mobile Division at Samsung, said in a press release. "With the launch of the Galaxy Tab S, Samsung is setting the industry bar higher for the entire mobile industry. It will provide consumers with a visual and entertainment experience that brings colors to life, beautifully packaged in a sleek and ultra-portable mobile device."
With major similarities between the two tablets, the battery in the 8.4-inch model is significantly smaller than the one in 10.5-inch tablet, 4,900mAh vs. 7,900mAh. The Ultra-Power Saving Mode helps boost the battery life on both versions. The bigger version of the Tab S is slightly heavier than its smaller model, at 465 grams and 284 grams for Wi-Fi model, respectively. The tablets are powered by Android KitKat 4.4 and boast Samsung's unique features such as Group Play, Video Editor, Story Album, S Translator, Kids Mode and more.
Samsung also introduced its magazine service called Papergarden on the new Tab series, which offer digital access to a wide range of magazines. It also offers more than 15,000 Marvel Comics for the first three months of membership through Marvel Unlimited app. Also, its partnership with kindle will ship a free book every month through its Book Deals and complete access to books in the Kindle Store. Netflix is also available in HD for Galaxy users for the first time, but only where the service is available.
The 8.4-inch Galaxy Tab S will be available alongside 10.5-inch model starting next month for $399 and $499 for the base models, respectively. Buyers can choose from two colors, Titanium Bronze or Dazzling White. Both colors will have gold finish on the side panels and on the logo on the back.
