Mexico's coach Miguel Herrera has reportedly benched the country's third-highest soccer scorer Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez for Friday's World Cup match against Cameroon, according to Metro United Kingdom.
Sky Sports reported that the former footballer is instead going with forward Guillermo Dos Santos and attackman Oribe Peralta to start the Group A contest.
Herrera said all of his players leave their heart and soul out on the field, day in and day out.
"I know that all of my players are going to leave their soul on the pitch to achieve a result," Herrera told the television network. "We are ready to go out and win."
Herrera also mentioned beating Cameroon is crucial to the Aztec's success throughout the competition, considering the Les Lions Indomptables didn't make the tournament's knockout rounds for its last five attempts.
"This is a very important game for us, key to our aspirations to progress to the next round. We know it's not going to be easy but we are going to work very hard to beat Cameroon," Herrera said.
The Aztecs also fell 1-0 to Bosnia and Herzegovina in practice matches, but the team is confident it can pull out a win in the 12 p.m. eastern standard time matchup, 5 p.m. British summer time.
"We are only interested in a win and not on the actual result," Herrera said. "A win is what matters - raking three points, and that is what we want."
Herrera also said the Les Lions Indomptables have a top notch reputation, along with some veteran players.
"They have a very good team, with fast players, who have experience," Herrera said. "We will try to manage possession."
According to Bleacher Report, Cameroon might not have participated in World Cup play. The team's players fought for more than the 61,000 pounds the squad was originally obliged to participate in the competition. The issue was resolved, and the team flew to Brazil Sunday.
The squad's coach, Volker Finke said the team is now prepared to play.
"We know that (Mexico) had a lot of problems in qualifying and that it was difficult," Finke said. "However, they are a very dangerous team, with an intense spirit. I can see that it is a difficult team but one that can be beaten."
