Home remodeler, David Gonzalez, hit the jackpot when he found a comic book worth $100,000 according to Fox News.
The 34-year old was in the mist of gutting a house in Elbow Lake, Minnesota when he found the 1939 comic. He has since placed the comic book on sale.
The comic was the first issue of its kind. According to The Minneapolis Star Tribune, the issue introduced what is now one of the most loved characters of all time, Superman.
The action filled comic featured Superman holding a car over his head. Gonzalez has already gotten 31 bids and is sure to attract more until June 11, the last day of the online auction. The highest bid so far is $107,333.
"I knew it was worth money, but I had no idea how much," Gonzales told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The father of four shared his findings with his family which led to the devaluing of the classic comic book. During a discussion with his family, Gonzalez ripped the back cover of the comic book and experts were forced to decrease its value.
Experts reportedly use a 10-point-scale to rate the item's state. Gonzalez's comic book rated a 1.5. A recently sold item similar to Gonzalez's was graded a 9.0 and was sold for a whopping $2 million.
Although experts informed Gonzalez that the tare may have cost him $75,000, Gonzalez was uninterested in the financial value of the comic.
"I am a humble working guy, so I didn't get too excited when I found it with old newspapers stuffed in the walls," he said. "Money won't buy you happiness."
Money may not be able to buy happiness but being a $100,000 richer may spark an appreciation for comics for Gonzalez.
