A Flagstaff, Ariz., woman found a razor blade in her Burger King chicken apple cranberry salad.
According to Arizona Family's 3TV, Jennifer Ashley noticed the sharp bladed tool before digging into the dish. She was out to lunch with her husband at the fast food giant's Milton Road location in the northern Arizona city.
An employee later reportedly acknowledged to causing the unpleasant situation. The product fell into Ashley's bowl from the shelf they placed it on. The staff member has since been fired. BK also gave Ashley a free salad and refund as a result of the ordeal.
Ashley told 3TV the tool could have severely hurt her if she did not see it before consuming the salad bowl's contents.
"It was actually in my salad," Ashley said. "There was a razor blade in there that I could have potentially put in my mouth and cut my mouth with."
Ashley took her incident to the media as a way to inform others that anyone can come across unwanted treasures in the food they consume. She will not pursue criminal action against the fast food giant.
"I'm not looking to press charges. I'm not looking to get money from this," she told 3TV. "I just want people to be aware that accidents happen and it could happen to anybody anywhere, and just be careful of what you eat. Don't just assume that because it's coming from a restaurant that it's safe."
Burger King examined all of its salads to ensure they weren't harmful after Ashley displayed the object for the location's manager.
The corporation said it's helping employees at the Milton Road location improve how food is readied.
"While this was an unintentional isolated incident, BKC finds this matter of extreme importance and is working with the franchisee, who independently owns and operates this restaurant, to reinforce our food preparation procedures and retrain staff," the chain said in a statement, obtained by television station ABC 15.
