Queen Elizabeth bestowed Angelina Jolie with an "honorary dame" title for her humanitarian work against sexual violence in war zones in her Birthday Honors List.
Angelina Jolie may not be the epitome of beauty with brains but there's definitely no one who defines beauty with a big heart better than her. And now she has a title to prove it. As part of her annual Birthday Honors List, Queen Elizabeth bestowed the "Maleficent" actress with an "honorary dame" title - the female version of a knight. Jolie earned the honor for her significant work against sexual violence in war zones.
"To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine," Jolie said, according to The Telegraph.
The award-winning actress continued to speak on her humanitarian efforts as a guest on Ronan Farrow's MSNBC show Ronan Farrow Daily, where she touched on the crisis caused by sexual violence in conflict and explained what made her get involved in the first place. She founded the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative (PSVI) in the U.K. two years ago.
"It was meeting with victims of rape, sitting there and hearing their stories and realizing how little had been done, how little prosecutions, how little people have been held accountable for such a horrendous crime. And it is, as we were speaking before the cameras started rolling, it is connected to refugee issues-all global issues," she said, according to PEOPLE Magazine.
Jolie is among a thousand people named on the Queen's annual Birthday Honors list, which also awarded a knighthood to Daniel Day-Lewis, a Companion of Honor order for Dame Maggie Smith and an Order of the British Empire (OBE) for "Homeland" star Damian Lewis.
