The "Game of Thrones" season four finale tied up loose ends, but disappointed those who have read the novel whom were expecting a major character to appear in the last moments.

Many book readers were waiting for the introduction of Lady Stoneheart to the series. Lady Stoneheart is Catelyn Stark's new persona following her resurrection after the Red Wedding. Lady Stoneheart looks nothing like Catelyn: her face is scarred, her striking red hair has turned grey and the wound in her neck never fully healed. She is out for Lannister blood and kills anyone who gets in her way.
Readers of "A Song of Fire and Ice" were expecting to see Lady Stoneheart's appearance in the last few seconds of finale. Instead, showrunners decided to end the season with Arya Stark on a ship to Braavos.
It seemed like the scene with Brienne of Tarth and Podrick encountering Arya and The Hound was leading to Lady Stoneheart's appearance. Arya was able to remain hidden and escape, but Brienne and Podrick could've encountered Lady Stoneheart during their hunt for the Stark girl. In the novels, the duo encounters the resurrected Catelyn and orders her men to kill them. It would've been the perfect opportunity to introduce the character.
Fans have been speculating about Lady Stoneheart's appearance since actress Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) posted an image on Twitter of stones shaped like a heart. Lena's photo was captioned "my stone heart," which many took as a wink to the finale. Headey has been known to tease fans, as she shared an image of herself "squeezing" Pedro Pascal's eyes week before his character Oberyn Martell's death.
Though zombie Catetlyn did not make an appearance, fans got to witness the death of Shae, Tywin Lannister and presumably The Hound as Arya left him to die outside of Th Vale.
