Writer Simon Kinberg has revealed the exact date for the setting "X-Men" franchise installment, "X-Men: Apocalypse."
Cinema Blend Reports the film's setting will take place in 1983, which is ten years after "X-Men: Days of Future Past." James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult will be reprising their roles in the upcoming film, but their characters will be 21 years older than they were in "X-Men: First Class."
The film could also take the opportunity to introduce younger versions of the original "X-Men" cast, including Jean Grey, Cyclops and Storm. However, the events of "Days of Future Past" completely rewrote history and their stories could drastically differ.
It is unclear if the Sentinel program ever went through and if Wolvervine went through the Weapon X program to get his Adamantium claws. Peter Trasks death in "X-Men: Days of Future Past" also caused Mystique to become an assassin, but she decided to spare his life. The new Mystique could have a whole new outlook on life and may align herself with Charles Xavier.
There have also been talks of Gambit joining the "X-Men" cast. Channing Tatum is currently working out a deal to put a "Gambit" film in motion. Tatum spoke to The Latino Review about his excitement to take on the mutant role.
"I'm super hyped about it. I would say we're going to try do something maybe a little different," Tatum told The Latino Review. "I don't know how to exactly explain it just yet, but he's a character character. He's got a serious Cajun accent. I don't know if you've heard a Cajun accent, but [we're] going to [need] subtitles at some times.
"He has also a 'Jedi mind trick' thing that we're going to [try to] put in where he speaks Patou...I'm going to have to learn Patou, which is going to be really hard, but we'll see."
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is slated to hit theaters on May 27, 2016.
