Garmin Viago Release Date: Android and iPhone Map App Hits Market

Garmin launched a new premium navigation app for Android and iPhone mobile devices, the company announced Tuesday.

Garmin's vice president for the company's world-wide mobile business in Wuerzburg, Germany said the device is more than just an average navigation system.

"Garmin víago offers the best navigation technology available from Garmin, helping drivers to reduce stress and save time on the road. The comprehensive feature set goes far beyond simple turn-by-turn directions and assists drivers like no other navigation app. Premium in app purchase options allow users to fully customize their navigation experience and only choose the features they want."

According to a press release, the $1.99 program gauges current speed and speed limit display. Directions also tell drivers in which lane to drive when traffic is congested. There are also off-board maps of several areas across the globe

Weather forecasts show upcoming weather predictions while traffic update maps dictate vehicle flow. Displays also show real-life photos of landscapes. Add-ons improve users' experience, including the downloadable maps app "Maps to Go." Consumers do not need a wireless connection to operate this feature. The phone stores the geographical illustrations. This archive helps people find their way when in areas without cell service. The option especially works in rural backcountry areas.

Real-time traffic automatically re-routes a consumers' path. Urban navigation displays available public transportation. Further information on public transportation is available with an in-app purchase. The maps backgrounds come in 3-D virtual landscapes.

Consumers can also use the app's pedestrian navigation feature when walking. This allows travelers to change from moving on foot or driving. This especially helps when people need to head somewhere after parking their car.

The device's attributes are grouped into different categories. Garmin Real Directions provides accurate and insightful directions via landmarks, stop signs, and traffic lights instead of street names. There is also a safety kit package, active lane guidance, traffic live, a panorama view and urban guidance component.
