Nissan Motor Co. and Polyphony Digital unveiled Monday its Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo as a virtual supercar.
The car was designed to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo driving video game, which was created for Sony's PlayStation console by Polyphony Digital, according to PC Magazine.
Players will be able to drive in the 2020 Vision Gran Turismo in Gran Turismo 6, which was released for the PS3 last year. Players get to choose from 1,200 cars to drive on over 100 tracks in the game.
Nissan said the virtual concept car also shows what a supercar could look like in the future, CNET reported.
Many designs similar to that of the GT-R are found in the concept. These designs include a roofline and slash headlights. The automaker also said that the car is a 2+2, with two doors, which is similar to the current GT-R. An engine type for the concept, however, has not been revealed.
The Gran Turismo supercar was designed by a team at Nissan Design Europe in London. Experts used Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo fantasy garage software for the design. The team also received input from Nissan's advanced engineering researchers at the Nissan Technical Center in Atsugi, Japan about designing the concept car.
Nissan said players will be available to download the Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo for Gran Turismo 6 in July.
Nissan has made appearances in Gran Tursimo games in the past with its GT-R and Skyline cars, PC Magazine reported.
The automaker also said that the company "believes that the real-world is ready for the Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo," indicating that it is ready to produce a real version of the supercar.
