Happy birthday Christian Grey! Focus Features and Universal Pictures gave "Fifty Shades of Grey" fans a special treat on Wednesday, June 18 and released the first official movie still from the upcoming movie. The picture was released to help celebrate the fictional character's 31st birthday.
"Happy Birthday Christian Grey #FiftyShades," the studio captioned the photo.
In the photo Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) is seen riding in a very expensive car, wearing a leather jacket and staring intently into the camera. We only hope that Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) is riding shot-gun but the studios did not release any photos of her.
This is the first time fans have gotten to see Christian since the movie poster came out five months ago. In the poster, Christian donned his classic tailored suit and had his back to the camera as he looked out a window.
Now that Universal and Focus have teased fans with the first picture of the sexy billionaire, maybe a trailer won't be too far behind. It was previously hinted by "Fifty Shades" fansite, Laters Baby, that an official trailer for the film might not be available until September.
According to the site, Motions Picture Association of America (MPAA) reportedly made some changes and is not allowing trailers to be released more than five months before the film is expected to hit theaters.
"Fifty Shades of Grey" was given a release date of Feb. 13, 2015 so if this information is accurate, the trailer won't be due out until mid-September. Back in March, Universal showed a five-minute clip of the film to an audience at CinemaCon but the reviews were mixed.
Some complained that it was extremely tame compared to the erotic novels by E.L. James.
"Based on the roughly five minutes of footage Universal unveiled, the movie seemed far more tame than the steamy, S&M-heavy book it's based on," the Los Angeles Times wrote. "Though Anastasia was shown blindfolded, as well as being pushed up against a wall by Christian, the teaser featured very little sex."
