"Metal Gear Solid" creator Hideo Kojima gets "depressed" every time he sees images of Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto V."
In an interview with CVG, Kojima revealed his opinion about the quality of the PS4 gameplay for GTA 5. The "Metal Gear Solid" creator explained it doesn't have to do with the game's design, but the overall "quality" of the game.
"It's a bit different because Rockstar is going in a very different direction to what I'm trying to create," Kojima explained CVG. "When we say we're an open-world game it makes it sound like it's trying to be the same as what those guys are creating. But this is very different - I'm trying to do a free infiltration game.
"What Rockstar has created and the world they have created is super impressive, and actually when I saw the PS4 version a few days ago I got depressed again," he continued. "And this is not game design-related it's just me. The quality that they showed in the PS4 trailer was really impressive."
Kojima may be concerned "Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" won't live up the brand's expectations, but the creator did hint at new online features coming to the franchise in the next installment.
"People who want to create a mother base in a very detailed way will be able to design it through the interface, or using their smart device," he told CVG. "I cannot talk too much - I'm being watched, but for people who saw the presentation, it ends with your mother base being attacked. People can infiltrate you, and you can infiltrate other people's mother base."
"Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain" does not have an official release date, but is reportedly set to launch early 2015 for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.
