BlackBerry Limited announced Wednesday that it has formed a partnership with Amazon.com that will make the online retailer's Appstore available on BlackBerry 10 devices.
Over 200,000 of Amazon's Android apps will be available this fall when BlackBerry launches its 10.3 operating system, according to PC Magazine.
"We've heard your appeals for access to more applications for your BlackBerry 10 device and we are delivering," BlackBerry wrote in a blog post. "You will be able to access popular apps such as Groupon, Netflix, Pinterest, Candy Crush Saga, and Minecraft - all available for direct download!"
The deal was made with the goal of offering more video, game, music, and other mobile apps to BlackBerry devices in order to make them more appealing. The partnership is also meant to let the Canadian handset maker focus on creating apps for enterprise customers, CNET reported.
Neither Amazon nor BlackBerry announced the terms of the deal.
"Making the Amazon Appstore available on BlackBerry 10 devices will BlackBerry continue to meet two essential needs: greater app availability for our smartphone users and enhanced productivity solutions for enterprises," said John Chen, executive chairman and CEO of BlackBerry. "We've listened to our customers and have taken this important step to deliver on their needs, while executing on our strategy."
BlackBerry will still offer apps through its BlackBerry World store. However, the company will close down the store's video and music sections on July 21st. Access to music and video will still be available to BlackBerry owners through third-party apps in BlackBerry World and the Amazon Appstore, PC Magazine reported.
Amazon said earlier this week that its Appstore now has over 240,000 apps and games, which was three-times what the company had a year ago. Apple's Appstore and Google Play both have close to 1.2 million apps.
Amazon is also expected to introduce its first smartphone at an event today, CNET reported. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. PT/1:30 p.m. ET.
