The Kansas City Royals play the Detroit Tigers on Thursday in Game 4 of their series. The game starts at 1:08 p.m. ET. Listen to the live radio broadcast below.
Detroit heads into Thursday looking to avoid a four-game sweep at home. After giving up 22 runs over the first two games, the Tigers limited Kansas City to two runs on Wednesday. While it was an improvement, Detroit was still handed a 2-1 loss as Kansas City went on to win their 10th straight game.
Royals starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie played a big role in his team's win, giving up only one run on four hits while fanning nine batters.
"This could be the best game he's thrown all year," Royals manager Ned Yost told the Associated Press. "He was fabulous. ... We had to go back to our old ways of doing things -- pitching and defense."
Danny Duffy (4-5, 2.83 ERA) is scheduled on Thursday with following Guthrie's performance. Duffy earned his fourth win of the season in Saturday's 9-1 blowout of the Chicago White Sox, whom he kept scoreless through seven innings while notching a career-tying nine strikeouts.
"Danny's been throwing the ball outstanding the last couple outings," Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer said of Duffy, who's 2-0 in his last three starts. "It's really fun to see him kind of develop into a starting pitcher."
Duffy will be opposed by Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez (3-2, 2.44), who's task with preventing a four-game whitewash at home. Sanchez has played well lately -- he's coming off Saturday's 12-9 win against Minnesota, his third win of the season -- but expects Thursday to be a challenge.
"Everything's going right for them right now," Sanchez said of Kansas City. "But at the end of the day, you need to give credit. They're playing good. They do the little things."
