Marcus Smart reportedly is declining to work out for the Utah Jazz ahead of the 2014 NBA draft. A Jazz executive told reporters Smart's agent has repeatedly turned down the team's invitation to work out, CBS Sports reports.
Smart, the former standout guard at Oklahoma State, seemingly has no interest in playing in Utah.
Per CBS Sports:
"(Jazz vice president of player personnel Walt) Perrin states that the team has done substantial work on Smart and are interested in him at No. 5. When asked whether they plan to have him in for a workout, Perrin says 'I've talked to his agent four times trying to get Marcus in,' indicating they tried and were unsuccessful.
"'Whatever the reason that they don't want Marcus to come in,' Perrin said, 'that's on them.'"
While the Jazz are interested in Smart, they're likely to select Dante Exum if the Australian 18-year-old guard falls to them.
ESPN's Chad Ford projects Utah to select Noah Vonleh and Smart to fall to the Lakers at the No. 7 spot.
"Given (Julius) Randle's potential foot issues, Smart becomes a strong possibility (for the Lakers)," Ford wrote on Tuesday. "He goes back in for a workout this week against Elfrid Payton."
Smart, listed at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, finished the 2013 season averaging 18.0 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. One of the biggest questions about 20-year-old is his maturity -- he was suspended for three games in February after shoving a Texas Tech fan.
The NBA draft is on Thursday, June 26.
