Angie Martinez: Former Hot97 Radio Host Officially Takes New Job at Power 105, Starts in July

Angie Martinez made the shocking announcement on Wednesday, June 18 that she was resigning from Hot97 after being a radio host for over two decades. Martinez made the announcement a few hours before her last show, writing on Instagram that she was "grateful" for the opportunity.

"Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly....the listeners... for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned.... Love, angie"

Following the news, the Internet started buzzing that "The Voice of New York" was taking her talents to rival station, Power 105 and it turns out the rumors were true. Martinez has yet to comment about the switch but Power 105's Angela Yee and DJ Envy both confirmed the news.

Yee posted a screenshot of a press release that welcomed Martinez to the Power 105 family.

"Clear Channel Media and Entertainment announced today that one of the most influential voices in Hip-Hop radio, Angie Martinez, will join the company to host afternoons on Power 105.1 in New York and Midday's on 103.5 The Beat in Miami," the press release read.

"'Angie is the Queen of New York City radio - she is an incredible talent who continues to blaze trails and we are excited to have her join the team at Power 105.1 and The Beat in Miami,'" Thea Mitchem, Senior Vice President of Programming - Major Markets, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, said in the press release.

According to Complex, Martinez will take over the 2-6 p.m. time slot beginning in July. The magazine also claims that the 43-year-old DJ landed a book deal as well.
