The Golden State Warriors reportedly are adding Klay Thompson to a potential trade package for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Love. The package would include Thompson, David Lee and a first-round pick for Love and teammate Kevin Martin, according to both Thompson's father and ESPN.
Thompson's father, Mychal, told ESPN radio the Warriors and Timberwolves are discussing a trade that includes his son. The elder Thompson, a current ESPN radio analyst and the former 1978 first overall draft pick, said on Thursday the deal includes Klay, Lee and a first-round draft pick for Love and Martin.
ESPN's Marc Stein also reported the same details, presumably from a different source.
"Sources told ESPN.com that Golden State, after initially resisting Minnesota's desire to land Thompson in a Love deal, has relented and is now willing to package Steph Curry's trusted backcourt mate along with David Lee and a first-round pick in a trade for Love that could materialize quickly with the 2014 NBA draft looming (on June 26)," Stein wrote Thursday.
ESPN's Chris Broussard reported a different trade package, however. Broussard said the deal would send Klay and Lee for Love, Martin, J.J. Barea -- likely because of his expiring contract -- and the Minnesota's No. 13 draft pick.
Love purportedly wants to opt out of his contract next season, which forces Minnesota to trade him before February if they don't want to let him walk for free. ESPN reported last month Love is interested in Golden State and the Chicago Bulls, whom Grantland's Bill Simmons says are more focused on acquiring Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.
Other potential landing spots for Love include the Boston Celtics, who have a number of assets to offer Minnesota, the Denver Nuggets, the Phoenix Suns, the New York Knicks and possibly the Houston Rockets.
