Ben and Jerry's Unveils Two New SNL-Inspired 40th Anniversary Flavors

Ben and Jerry's new "Saturday Night Live" inspired ice cream flavors may make you smile as much as the iconic comedy show.

To celebrate the Vermont-based ice cream maker's fourth decade in business, Ben and Jerry's dreamed up two new kinds of desserts. The idea for its Lazy Sunday orignates from an "SNL" sketch starring popular cast members Adam Samberg and Chris Parnell's who expressed an over-the-top love of cupcakes, especially ones from Magnolia Bakery in New York City. The flavor features vanilla cake batter ice cream covered with chocolate and chewy yellow cupcake pieces, topped with a swirl of chocolate frosting.

Ben and Jerry's second offering, a Kristen Wiig-inspired flavor called Gilly's Catastrophic Crunch, has a marshmallow swirl the company describes "as frantic and mischievous as the flavor's namesake." The flavor also contains a mixture of chocolate and other sweet creams as well as caramel clusters and almonds immersed in fudge,

"Our fans have a great sense of humor and we share their affinity for the comic genius of "Saturday Night Live," said Lisa Sholk, Ben and Jerry's Marketing Manager. "We loved the challenge of creating ice cream personalities for those iconic sketches."

Tweating out, "Live from Ben & Jerry's...It's @nbcsnl Batches!" the company asked patrons to stay tuned for additional SNL sketch-inspired flavors currently available for sale at Ben and Jerry's ice cream locations throughout the United States and Canada.

Two more flavors are expected to be released in 2014.
