Janet Jackson is the world's latest billionaire, a title she's earned through her acting and music career, Yahoo OMG noted on Wednesday.
Janet Jackson reached a milestone in terms of personal wealth this year. Jackson is married to Wissam Al Mana who owns a luxury fashion empire in the Middle East, making the couple very wealthy indeed.
Jackson, 47, earned $260 million in album sales, plus $81 million in publishing fees and nearly half a billion dollars in touring alone. According to the report, she also earned more than $80 million from sponsors and her millions from acting roles in blockbuster films like The Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, which all adds up to a healthy sum.
Despite a five-year absence from music, Janet is back in the studio working on her first album since 2008's Discipline, according to Billboard. She is still in the early stages and is in no rush to release it.
"I am working on a new project now. We are creating the concept and initial thoughts on the music," she said. "I am excited about the direction we are taking. I don't want to rush it... I don't want to put a time constraint on the creative process."
Meanwhile, her husband's fashion empire, Al Mana Retail, represents such high end brands as Giorgio Armani, Hermes, Balenciaga, and Roberto Cavalli. Al Mana also owns stakes in the Saks Fitfh Avenue stores in Dubai, Bahrain, and Kuwait, and is opening the flagship A/X Exchange in a Qatar shopping mall. Wissam's net worth is estimated at $1 billion, according to Zapit.
