Argentina began their World Cup bid with a 2-1 win Sunday against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Sead Kolasinac drew first blood with a goal in the third minute, and Lionel Messi scored what proved to be the deciding goal in the 65th minute.
"Messi is the best player in the world, it's not as though he needs a lot of support but when he receives a boost from his team-mates there is no doubt that it empowers him even more to be the best player in the world," Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella told FIFA.com. "I think that whatever happens in this World Cup he is among the best players in the history of football."
Messi acknowledged Sabella's decision to go from five on defense to a 4-3-3 formation made it easier for him and teammate Sergio Aguero to score.
"As strikers we prefer that system as it gives us more attacking opportunities and if we don't use that system we suffer a bit," Messi said. "We as strikers favour that line-up."
The Argentinians may receive a boost with the return of forward Rodrigo Palacio, who missed the match against Bosnia-Herzegovina with a twisted ankle. Palacio participated fully in training on Tuesday and is expected to be fit and available on Saturday, according to FIFA.com.
Iran, meanwhile, is coming off a scoreless draw on Saturday against Nigeria.
