Germany easily dismantled Portugal in the opener, 4-0, thanks to a hat trick from forward Thomas Muller. Portugal didn't have an answer for Germany's offense, and Germany's defense stifled and frustrated Portugal the entire game.
While Muller's three goals were the highlight of the match, Germany boss Jose Mourinho doesn't believe the striker has yet been tested.
"I would like to see Muller up against a compact defense," Mourinho said, via FIFA.com. "That would test him. Portugal were far too weak. There are plenty of teams at this World Cup who defend far better, are much tighter and better organised."
German midfielder Mario Gotze agreed there were bigger challenges ahead and didn't read much into the score against Portugal.
"It was important for us to take those three points [against Portugal], but that was all," Gotze told FIFA.com. "Our performance shouldn't be overstated, as there were some things that simply went well for us. In some situations we were just lucky. It won't be easy given that Ghana now need three points no matter what.
"It'll be a very tough game, but we can be confident about it."
Ghana, meanwhile, is looking to bounce back from a surprising 2-1 loss on Monday against the United States. Displeased with his role as a left-sided defender in the team's 4-2-3-1 lineup, two-time Ghana footballer of the year Kwadwo Asamoah wants to be on the attack against Germany.
"I'm the kind of player who attacks a lot. My style is different, I'm not a typical defender," Asamoah said. "I attack, try to dribble one-on-one and make crosses and shots. I'm not a left back. And I'm finding it difficult because I'd like to show what I'm capable of and show that I can do more."
