After undergoing a "grueling double mastectomy" in May, Samantha Harris has revealed that she may have to undergo chemotherapy as well.
People Magazine reported that the former "Dancing with the Stars" host has learned that her cancer has spread beyond her breasts. Doctors reportedly informed the 40-year-old TV personality that while performing a double mastectomy they had to remove her lymph nodes.
"When I came to in recovery, my surgeon was standing over me with a look of sadness and told me that he had to take out all of my lymph nodes" Harries told People. "A few days later I got some good news. Thankfully, only one node was positive. Unfortunately, that usually means chemo."
Last fall, Harris detected a lump in her right breast during a self-examination. Despite tests results coming back clean, Harris said after visiting a breast cancer specialist and preforming a lumpectomy, she was later told that she had breast cancer.
At the time the mother of two compared to the experience to an "elephant sitting on [her] chest."
Harris told People that after learning about her treatment options from three different specialists she was left with the option of getting a "double mastectomy or a less-radical second lumpectomy with radiation." Harris, who decided to have the operation, said despite the depressing news, she remains hopeful.
"I am scared by the prospect of chemo, but I know so many inspiring women who have gone through it and, as they told me, 'rocked it,'" she said. "If I need it, I will take a deep breath and readjust my focus."
Harris adds, "Stay positive. When life deals you lemons, you gotta make lemonade!"
