Kraft Velveeta cheese lovers beware: the food maker has voluntarily recalled more of the gooey packaged product, this time for containing insufficient amounts of a preservative ingredient.
Appropriate levels of sorbic acid was lacking in 260 cases of Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese products.
"While unlikely, the affected product could spoil prematurely and/or lead to food-borne illness," said Kraft company officials. "Therefore, the company is issuing this recall as a precaution. This recall affects one batch of product made on one manufacturing line during a few hours of production."
The affected products bear an expiration date of Dec. 17, 2014, and have a UPC code of 10021000611611, accompanied by consumer package code 021000611614.
Three Walmart distribution centers received the cheese shipments, which may have also been re-sent to other domestic retail locations in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
"Consumers can find the case code date on the side of the package," added Kraft company employees. "No other products outside this time period on this case code date are affected by this recall, nor are any other Kraft or Velveeta products. The affected product was identified during a review of finished product samples. The company is taking action to ensure it doesn't happen again."
Incorrect package labeling and an allergen forced The United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service to recall 3.3 pound cases containing six nine ounce microwavable containers of Kraft Velveeta Cheesy Skillets Singles earlier this year.
The company pulled back 1.77 million pounds of pasta and meat product on Jan. 20.
Consumers who bought affected Velveeta Original Pasteurized Recipe Cheese products should return them to the site of purchase for a complete refund, per the company's request.
