Djokovic begins the campaign for his second Wimbledon trophy on Monday against Golubev. Pressure will be on Djokovic, who earned the top seed of the tournament, because has hasn't won a major in his last five tries. The Serb, though, refuses to dwell on it.
"I have to keep on moving," Djokovic said, via the Wall Street Journal. "I have to try to improve myself not just on the court, but understand well the mental aspect, what is happening in those finals, why I am not able to win a Grand Slam title."
He's made to finals in three of his last five majors, with his latest loss coming last month in the French Open final against rival Rafael Nadal.
"It took a lot out of me," Djokovic said. "I needed, you know, four, five days of rest and trying to get my mind off the tennis."
Adding another major to his resume is the surest way to get over the loss. Djokovic beat Golubev in all three of their previous meetings; they last met at Indian Wells in 2014.
The Russian is ranked No. 56 in the World, and he's never made it out of the first round at Wimbledon.
One concern for Djokovic is a seemingly minor wrist injury. He told reporters he began feeling pain his wrist before the start of the Monte Carlo tournament in April. The pain subsided during the Rome tournament and the French Open, but he acknowledged his wrist has felt strange during practice at Wimbledon.
