Yahoo News has hired former NBC News investigative reporter Michael Isikoff as its new chief investigative correspondent.
Isikoff will start at his new position in August and will assist Yahoo in building its new investigative unit to be based in Washington, according to The New York Times.
"He's a guy who breaks a lot of news and starts huge national conversations," said Megan Liberman, the editor in chief of Yahoo News.
While working for NBC News, Isikoff made on-air appearances to talk about national current affairs involving the war on terror. He has also worked at Newsweek, as well as The Washington Post, where he had a leading role reporting on the Monica Lewinsky scandal with former President Bill Clinton, The Wrap reported.
Yahoo's hiring of Isikoff is the company's latest move to hold a top spot producing news content. Liberman had previously worked for The New York Times as a deputy editor. The company's other recent hires include David Pogue from The Times, political writer Matt Bai and news anchor Katie Couric.
Isikoff joined NBC News in 2010 and made frequent appearances on MSNBC as well as on "NBC Nightly News" and "Today". He is also known for reporting on the Pennsylvania State University sex abuse case, The New York Times reported.
He said joining Yahoo "seemed like a very natural thing to do" and called the energy at the company "infectious." He added that he was looking forward to working again with Daniel Klaidman, a former colleague from Newsweek who currently works for Yahoo News as a deputy editor.
Isikoff stated he is looking to expand his reporting by using a variety of platforms, such as video, The New York Times reported.
"Digital is the future of the news business," he said, in reference to leaving NBC News. "That's the cold, hard reality."
