Misfit Teams Up with Pebble to Launch New Fitness Tracking App

Misfit Wearables announced Tuesday that it has partnered with smartwatch maker Pebble to release a new app that combines the Misfit Shine activity tracker with the Pebble watch.

The fitness-tracking company said the Pebble app will work with the Misfit iOS app, and that it will let users set activity goals, track progress, share fitness success, and compete with friends, according to PC Magazine.

The Misfit Shine is one of the few trackers that is completely waterproof and safe to use while swimming. The device is outlined by a ring of lights that illuminate to show users how close they are to their activities' goals with a percentage indicator. If the user has achieved 50 percent, half of the circular tracker lights up.

So far, the Shine has been able to work with Android and iOS.

The Pebble watch and Pebble steel are also waterproof and work with iOS as well as Android, CNET reported.

The Pebble app includes a circular daily goal progress bar, can count steps and estimates calories burned. Misfit will also add its specialized algorithms to the app, along with its user interface. Sleep tracking is not featured in the app, but it will be added in a later release. Users will also have to open the app in order for it to be able to count steps.

While Pebble already has several fitness apps, such as Strava, RunKeeper, and Puma, it does not have any capable of dependable continuous tracking, CNET reported. Misfit's new app has the potential to provide the features lacking in Pebble's devices.

"This is the first milestone in an ongoing partnership and collaboration between Pebble and Misfit that aims to provide intuitive health and fitness tracking for all," Pebble said in a press release.
