Sarah Jessica Parker is returning to the small screen.
Deadline reported that the former "Sex and the City" star has landed one of the lead roles in a new crime thriller series based on the book "Busted: A Tale Of Corruption and Betrayal in the City of Brotherly Love" written by journalists Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker.
The limited-run series will follow two reporters as they search to uncover one of the biggest police corruption scandals in Philadelphia's history. The book is a collection of Ruderman and Laker's 10-month article series entitled "Tainted Justice," which was published in the Philadelphia Daily News in 2009.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Tainted Justice" won the two reporters a Pulitzer Prize. The rights of the book have been optioned by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Also attached to the project is production company Anonymous Content, known for its work on HBO's "True Detective".
"Busted" will be aired in hour-long episodes. According to Deadline, the project will not shop around for networks until there is a full cast. Porducers are currently casting the second lead role.
Screenwriter Don Roos has been hired to write the pilot, while David Frankel is set to direct and executive produce the series.
"Wendy and Barbara have written an amazing true story, and we're thrilled for it to be SKE's first television project. Sarah Jessica's coming on board, along with David Frankel and Don Roos, is simply a perfect combination that we couldn't be happier about," Jim Tauber, president, and Carla Hacken, president of production at Sidney Kimmel Entertainment, said in statement.
This is Parker's first regular television role since her HBO hit "Sex and the City." The actress guest starred in three episodes of FOX's "Glee" in 2012 as Isabelle Wright, an editor at Vogue.
