Ford Recall Expands for 2014 F-150 Pickup Trucks

Ford Motor Company announced Tuesday that it is expanding its recall of 2014 Ford F-150 trucks from 372 vehicles to 5,675 vehicles.

The trucks were recalled because of an issue with the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS), according to Zacks. The EPAS's motor position sensor may have been installed incorrectly by the suppliers, which could damage the steering and lead to the driver losing control, resulting in an increased risk of a crash.

A supplier brought the issue to Ford's attention on June 17th. Data in the original recall was reviewed and indicated that the problem was bigger than the company initially believed, Tech Times reported.

The recall involves pickups that were built between May 26th and June 19th. Out of the 5,675 vehicles, only 260 of them have been delivered to consumers, and the remaining trucks were still at dealerships or on their way to dealers.

"Ford is committed to providing our customers with top quality vehicles," Ford said in a press release Tuesday. "We are equally committed to addressing potential issues and responding quickly for our customers."

There has been no report of any injuries or death related to the defective EPASs, Zacks reported. Ford has asked that owners of the recall vehicles not to use the trucks and to report to the dealers for repair as soon as they can. The automaker also ordered dealers not to sell any of the trucks affected by the recall, as well as to not offer test drives for them. The dealers will replace the affected trucks' steering gear to fix the sensors.

Ford also offered $300 in compensation to dealers who sell rental vehicles to owners of the recalled pickups, Tech Times reported. The customers would determine the location for the delivery and pickup of the trucks.

The automaker issued four different recalls for about 1.4 million vehicles in May, which included Ford Explorers, Ford Escape and Mercury Mariners.
