‘Doctor Who’ Season 8 Premiere Date: Peter Capaldi Makes Debut Appearance in August (VIDEO)

"Doctor Who" fans get ready to meet the Twelfth Doctor! BBC America announced the international TV hit will return to U.S. screens on Saturday, Aug. 23 with Peter Capaldi playing the lead role.

BBC also released a 15-second teaser trailer and from the looks of it, Capaldi and Jenna Coleman (who's returning as Clara Oswald) run into a bit of trouble.

"I don't think I know who the Doctor is anymore," Clara said in the clip with a worried look on her face.

The premiere episode is titled "Deep Breath" and will be a lot longer than usual. BBC didn't give specifics but said it will be a "feature length" episode, E! News reports. Capaldi is taking over the lead role from Matt Smith who played the Eleventh Doctor from 2010 to 2013.

It was announced last August that Capaldi would be the replacement. Fans first met the Twelfth Doctor in November for the show's 50th Anniversary Special and again at the end of last year's Christmas Special.

"Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege," Capaldi said at the time, E! News reports. "Like The Doctor himself, I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. It's so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer, but it's been so fantastic."

If fans want even more of Capaldi as the new Doctor, BBC announced the first-ever "Doctor Who" World Tour which kicks off this summer in Wales. According to Variety, the tour is expected to make stops in London, Seoul, Sydney, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. Capaldi and Coleman are expected to be in New York on Aug. 14.

This year the "Doctor Who" cast includes Samuel Anderson as Coal Hill School teacher Danny Pink, "Game of Thrones" star Robert Goodman, Jonathan Bailey and Pippa Bennett-Warner.

Series 8 of "Doctor Who" returns Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. on BBC America.
